Program

Our Instructors

All of our instructors are experienced horse people with a desire to share their experience and knowledge with the next generation of riders.

Horses

Our instructors can coach you on your own horse or you can take a lesson on one of our school horses.

Group Lesson Program (Fall/Winter Sessions)

Our group lessons are offered at 4 different skill levels guided by the fundamentals of the Equine Canada Rider levels. This program has been designed to teach our students essential horsemanship skills and is required for all students new to Chaplin Equestrian, regardless of their riding level and experience.  Upon completion of the program, students are encouraged to advance to our private lessons with the option to lease or purchase a horse.

UNDER 8 Lesson Program (Fall/Winter Sessions)

Students who are under the age of 8 are eligible for our private lesson program. This program is catered to those under the age of 8 to prepare them for the Group Lesson Program.

Individual Lessons

We encourage students to participate in our Group Lesson Program but those students who wish to take a private lesson outside our program are welcome. These lessons are 30 min.

Arriving for Lesson & Lesson Duration

Students need to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to scheduled lesson in order to groom and tack up their horse.  Our Group Lesson program and Under 8 Lesson Program are 45 minutes.  Lessons are scheduled back to back, so unfortunately, late students will get less time in the saddle.  After the lesson, students need to allow for at least 30 minutes to properly cool out and groom their horse.  In addition, all equipment needs to be cleaned and put away properly. Regular Lesson Days will be Monday afternoons and Saturday mornings.

Proper Attire

An approved riding helmet, boots with a walking heel (one inch minimum) and long pants are required for all riding lessons.  Helmets can be supplied by Chaplin Equestrian pending proper fit but students looking to continue riding are encouraged to purchase their own.

Horse Leasing

Want the flexibility of riding a horse all to yourself but are not quite ready to purchase a horse?  Leasing is an excellent alternative.  For more information, please contact Erin Wirch to discuss rates and availability.

Alberta Equestrian Federation Memberships

Prepare for your Lesson

The Chaplin Equestrian Lesson Program is designed to teach young riders safety around horses and provide a fun atmosphere to learn new skills on horseback. The program is geared towards developing riders who wish to compete while teaching them the fundamental skills of taking care of a horse and setting attainable goals. We require that students be at least 6 years of age to be physically capable of handling their mounts. Riders must have a boot with a minimum one inch heel in order to ride, along with an approved helmet and long pants (preferably breeches).

what to bring to your lesson

Riders are required to wear an approved ASTM riding helmet and have their hair secured in a hairnet or pony tail. Boots with a heel and long pants are required. It is encouraged to not wear baggy clothing as it is difficult for the instructor to correct mistakes in position.

CANCELLATION POLICY

Chaplin Equestrian requires 24 hour notice to cancel a lesson.  Chaplin Equestrian will not refund fees for any missed lessons.  When 24 hour notice is not given, the student forfeits the right to make up that lesson.  When 24 hour notice is given, the lesson can be made up on specific days and times.  The makeup lesson must be scheduled within 2 weeks of the original lesson.  Makeup classes CANNOT be rescheduled.
